10 Stationery Trends For 2011-2012

It’s a lot of fun to watch the global trends come and go every year.  Whether they originate in a NYC fabric mill or a fashion house in Paris, every season we find ourselves glued to the reports to see what’s hot and what’s not. We’re left floored by the collections, fascinated by the possibilities and interested in the reactions.

Peruse. Pick. Choose.

To thine own wedding look be true—but incorporating one or two of the hottest styles is a great way to keep a modern look to your wedding.

Translating the trends to wedding stationery

1. Bright & Bold Colors
Although Pantone’s color of the year is honeysuckle pink, we’re seeing lots of bright and lively colors being celebrated in stationery designs. Color your wedding your way! If bright colors aren’t your thing, choose the hues that make sense to you—paired with the season and formality of your event.

2. Textures & Layers
We’re seeing lots of ruffles, rosettes, bows and layers in wedding fashion. Extend this trend and add dimension to your Wedding Invitations by layering them with vellum bands and decorative seals. Colorful envelope liners add the perfect pop of color and design to introduce your wedding style. Take your guests on a discovery tour of the beautiful details of your invitation suite.

3. Pocket Wedding Invitations
One of the most popular wedding invitation types—Pocket Invites are not only pretty, but practical too. Especially helpful for out of town guests or destination weddings, they are a fabulous choice for keeping enclosure cards neat and organized. Fill your Pockets with the wedding itinerary, reception info, maps, etc to keep your guests prepared and on schedule.

4. All About Personalization!
Modern weddings are all about personalization! Today’s couples are reflecting their passion, personality and style across their wedding stationery suite—from signature colors, fun fonts, playful patterns,  unique wording and photojournalistic photography.

5. Eco-conscious Approach
A life cycle of recycle. Eco-friendliness—no longer a gimmicky term, but one that resonates with those looking to minimize their wedding carbon footprint. Couples are choosing to upcycle items like their wedding flowers, attire and décor and donate leftover wedding food. Earth-friendly papers like 100% cotton, recycled and FSC certified{Forest Stewartship Council}papers are awesome alternatives for eco-conscious brides and grooms.

6. Watercolor Washes

The lovely look of watercolor is a beautiful stationery trend. Soft florals and gentle landscapes are popular as well as other colorful and artful designs on Save the Dates and Invitation Ensembles. The hand painted look is charming and romantic and perfect look for spring and summer weddings.

7. Vintage and Regal
Integrating a vintage aesthetic is a reigning wedding trend! Just weeks ago, the world watched the fairytale royal wedding—replete with lovely lace and twinkling tiaras. Through attire, food and décor, borrow the charm from another era. And, since your wedding stationery is the first glimpse guests see of your vintage style, set the mood with archetypal patterns, distinctive fonts and vintage-inspired elements.

8. Simply Elegant
Look to Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn as the style icons for this trend. If this is your wedding style, you’ll be drawn to designs that have an effortless, classic and understated quality to them. Personalize your Save the Dates and your wedding invitation suite with script fonts, modern monograms and soft colors to reflect your uncomplicated yet graceful style.

9. Wedding Theme
From butterflies and peacocks, to carnival or country, many couples are choosing a wedding theme to help them organize their style and save on dollars. Whatever your theme, carry it across your Save the Dates, Invitations and Thank Yous, to your Envelope Liners and Address Labels, to keep your wedding look cohesive and consistent.

10.  Embracing Culture
Modern couples are embracing their culture and making stylish statements with their wedding Programs, Invites, Favors and Thank Yous, etc. Couples are finding unique ways to sprinkle elements from their heritage and background across their wedding using a distinguishing design, traditional wording and customary colors.

It is definitely fun and exciting to see which trends take hold, which trends do not, and which trends come back around again {i.e. platform shoes—but in a good way this time}. Whatever triggers the trends—be it the movies, the Big Apple, the City of Light, or the Royal Wedding, we’ll always be here to gawk, embrace and share our favorites- in fashion and wedding stationery.
