{GB} Engagement Ring Trends for 2011

2011 is set to be an exciting year for the bridal industry – in Britain and America at least: There’s a royal wedding taking place.  Prince William will marry long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton in April and experts are predicting that the royal nuptials will be influencing bridal trends for the year.

So what impact will that have on trends in engagement rings for the year?  Let’s take a look:

Coloured Gems

Coloured (or “fancy”) diamonds and alternative precious stones have been increasing in popularity throughout 2010.

The release of pictures of the princess-to-be’s sapphire engagement ring only cemented their status.  Sales of sapphire engagement rings have soared since the public saw Middleton’s stunning rock: Expect to see more colourful engagement rings hit the shops this year.

Vintage Styling

The desire for antique and vintage-style engagement rings just won’t go away.  As Prince William presented his fiancée with his mother’s ring, you know that classic styles and fittings will stay in vogue in 2011.

Ornate Settings

Not many will be able to afford jewellery as intricate as the royal ring, but thankfully there are an increasing number of ornate settings on the high street for high-class glamour on a budget.

A key trend is the rise in floral settings – either a cluster of gems set into a flower shape or floral metal shapes set with precious stones.  Alternatively choose a cluster setting: one key stone surrounded by smaller gems.

Many of the key engagement ring trends that will dominate in 2011 were already taking hold in 2010, but the prince’s choice of ring has thrust them into the limelight.

For an on-trend engagement ring look to Kate Middleton for inspiration: But always choose a ring you’ll love for a lifetime – fashionable or not – you’ll be wearing it for years to come.
