Support Marriage Equality

Have you heard, Levi’s has a website called Whiteknot.org. This is the second year they are campaigning for marriage equality to support marriage for everyone. Gays, straight or otherwise. If you want to help the campaign go to your nearest Levi’s store and pick up your white knot. Be visible and tell people why your wearing it. Equal rights is important for everyone. Read their press release. White Knots are now worn by 32 countries around the world.

To Toss the Bouquet or Not

At our wedding I decided not to toss the bouquet. Why? For years I was the dreaded Maid-of-Honor.  Eighteen times to be exact.  All my friends got married before me.  As soon as they called all the single girls up to the stage – I ran for the bathroom.  One of my girlfriends got on the microphone and said “we cannot start until my Maid-of-Honor is present because she is single”.  She sent two people to retrieve me from the bathroom stall I was hiding in. How humiliating. It’s like announcing that you haven’t found someone yet as if to say something is wrong with you.  Funny, I caught all 17 bouquets, aimed right for me until the last one in which I gentle pushed one of the flower girls in front of me. I had to break the cycle. It was jinxing me from finding Mr. Right. Really!

The Perfect Bridal Shower Gift

Are you struggling to find that perfect gift for the bride?

Today, you have two kinds of bridal showers. What has become the tradition, bridal shower gifts that are geared to help the couple get household items for their new home as well as items to decorate and maintain their home. In this case taking a trip Target or Crate and Barrel and checking out the registry to purchase these items was a snap.

Wedding Dress 101

Shopping for your wedding dress is both exciting and nerve racking.  The first thing you should do is look through a few bridal magazines. Get on the internet and go through some photos. Print out and clip out dresses that you like or things about the dress you like. Bring these with you as they will be helpful information for your bridal dress consultant.
Already found the dress of your dreams? Well hold on, I don’t want to disappoint you but just because you look at a picture and fall in love with the dress doesn’t mean that the dress is for you.  You could try it on and it could look complete wrong on your body type.  Don’t get discouraged try other dresses that are similar but maybe have a different cut to them or detailing.  The key to not being disappointed is to keep your mind open when you are dress shopping.

Wedding Software Review

I cannot stress enough to a bride-to-be to get organized early on. Give yourself plenty of time to prepare for the biggest day of your life. I bought iDO Wedding Couple Edition Software when I got married in 2007. I was looking for something that worked with Outlook; a definite plus since I had all my attendees already in my contact list. It’s very easy to run. It was the best $29.95 I spent. My favorite module was the gift registry for my shower, it was so easy to do thank yous to everyone afterward.

It’s Just Cake!

For anyone who is getting married – my question to you is, “Are you having fun yet?” If you have started to plan your wedding, then you know what a racket the wedding industry can be. Let’s take wedding cake for example. Each year a company in Sweden sets the standard for pricing wedding cake per slice. In 2007 a slice of cake was $9 per guest. In 2008 it was $10 per guest.  It is ridiculous. You know what folks – it’s just cake! Why does it have to cost so much?

Here is a helpful tip. If you’re getting married in 2011 – lock in your 2010 price before the end of November. Most bakers will allow you to do this but you will have to sign your contract and be prepared to put down a deposit. But the savings is well worth it.

So You’re Getting Married!

Congratulations – you’re getting married!  This is an exciting time.

I have created this site for the bride that is on a budget, who cannot afford to hire a wedding coordinator, or maybe you just want to do it yourself. I have some tips and other helpful information that will help make your wedding a success.

For a successful, stress free wedding, start planning early. I cannot tell you how important this is. Give ourself at least 1 year to plan your dream wedding – even if you decide to hiring a wedding coordinator

After you announce your engagement and set your date you will need to start booking the location site you are getting married at, your reception, your catering company and the bakery who will be doing your wedding cake.

Just remember you’re not the only one getting married and the earlier you book the less disappointment you will be when you start making those phone calls.
